Most Georgians are not aware that automobile insurers can sell us what is referred to as “full coverage” without Medical Payments or “MedPay” coverage.
MedPay is an optional coverage that you usually must ask for and pay an additional fee to obtain, but if you are ever involved in an accident, the small cost (mine is about $10
a month for $25,000 in coverage) is truly a bargain for the benefit you get--
-
MedPay pays 100% of your medical, diagnostic and chiropractic bills up to the limit you choose for injuries you and your passengers sustain
from a motor vehicle accident, regardless of who was at fault.
-
If you have MedPay, the cost of your treatment is covered. Any settlement you get, if you choose to pursue one in the event you were not at
fault, is yours to keep without your having to spend a huge portion of it to pay your health care expenses.
I recommend carrying MedPay coverage of at least $5000. The cost of just one MRI (used often to diagnose spinal injuries) of
one body part currently is about $1300, and this would be paid 100% by MedPay coverage, but you are responsible for the cost of your care if you do not have this coverage
(regardless of who was at fault!).
Also, it is becoming difficult even to find facilities which will provide needed diagnostic and medical services to patients without direct insurance coverage or payment in
full at the time of service, because often the settlement process is a long, drawn out process and the outcome is never guaranteed.
Protect yourself!!!
Call your insurance agent now to make sure you have MedPay coverage.
You will be glad you did!
